Legend of the Dogwood

Legend of the Dogwood An old and beautiful legend says that, at the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood was comparable in size to the oak tree. Because of the firmness and strength of its wood, it was selected as the timber for the cross. legend says the tree was sad its wood was used to make the cross of Jesus. Understanding this, Jesus Christ with gentle pity for the sorrow of the tree said to it: "Because of your sorrow and pity for My sufferings, never again will the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used as a cross. From now on the dogwood will be slender, bent, and twisted. The dogwood blossoms will be in the form of a cross two long and two short petals. At the outer edge of each petal, there will be nail prints brown with rust. the center of the flower will be stained red and represent My crown of thorns. All who see the dogwood tree will remember My sacrifice. This legend reminds us that even nature reflects God’s life-giving action of offering salvation. through Jesus Christ. HE HAS RISEN! Celebrate the lovely blooms that God provides for us. Our God is a God of LIFE.
