What is the meaning of Lent

Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Sundays in Lent are not counted because each Sunday represents a “mini Easter. " So, the reflective period of Lent is balanced with anticipation of the Resurrection in Sunday worship. In the early church, Lent was when people wishing to be baptized would take classes on Christianity and learn about the church and discipleship. The forty days of Lent represent the time Jesus spent in the wilderness, enduring the temptation of Satan and preparing to begin his ministry. During Lent, the church enters into a season of preparation, self-reflection and repentance when we seek to literally “turn around” and realign our lives with God’s purpose.By doing so, we in the church seek to live and love as more faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. So Lent was and is meant to be a time to do something that brings one closer to God. In Lent ,Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to volunteer to offer special services to others, or to give up something significant to imitate the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made in the wilderness.
